Battery not charging and alternator producing 50+volts

Something to check. The "battery sense wire" is a lead to the regulator that the regulator uses to determine the system's state of charge or actual voltage in your electrical system. The battery sense wire may have a high resistance or may be open. If there is a resistance in this circuit, the...

    Stuck Prop and Clicks

This is where a voltage drop test is the way to go. No high currents jumping across any terminals, damaging threads on the terminal.... The volt meter will show if the solenoid is open with a high voltage reading. No contact should show more than a few tenths of a volt across the main terminals...

    Stuck Prop and Clicks

This sounds like a connection is opening under load. I've seen it many times exactly as described. A "voltage drop test" would be a good way to determine the exact location of a high resistance in a circuit, connection, or part. It's an easy test, but it's a bit difficult to explain. I am...

    Cessna 172M Fuel Smell Issue

I've had both these issues over the years. The hoses aren't too bad to replace. With my fuel selector, the O rings could be replaced. There should be a plug button on the belly under the selector you can check for staining. Not a fun project to pull the selector.

    Auto Fuel STC

I have run none ethanol fuel for over 20 years without a single issue in a 172A. Just make sure you test the fuel for ethanol which is easy to do. It takes two minutes. As posted above, cleaner plugs... and better for the engine than 100LL for "low compression" engines 8.5 to 1 and lower. If...

Hello from Coeur d Alene ID

The average middle class cannot afford a home now either. It's obvious wages haven't kept up with Inflation over the last four years. Proof of that is that $600K home. How does a middle-class person buy a home and get into aviation in this present situation? Four years ago, it was doable...

Hello from Coeur d Alene ID

We, the wife and I bought our 172A back in 97. I had about 15 hours of flight training at the age of 36. My father was an A&P so that was one heck of an advantage. We found and inspected the 172 at High Desert Airport, gone now, in southern CA, and bought it for $19K. Our new family members'...
