I want to put a constant-speed prop on my Cessna 172N. Does anyone know where I can get one and what I need to do to install it?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, there isn't a direct STC for a constant-speed prop on a Cessna 172N. However, you could explore custom modifications with an experienced aviation mechanic or engineer.

Consulting with a certified A&P mechanic or an EAA technical advisor is a good starting point. They can provide guidance on potential modifications, necessary paperwork, and FAA regulations.

Assuming that you have an O-320 H2AD engine, the modification may not be possible due to the type of crankshaft fitted. If you have a hollow crankshaft and it has the internal fitting for a VP prop and a machined mounting pad for the CSU, then you would need to modify the crankshaft by removing the front plug and fitting the rear plug, not easy to do.
I assume you would like more speed and better performance, if so the better modification would be to fit a Lycoming O-360 A4N and a McCauley 1A170E/JFA7658 propeller, as the STC is already out there. The 1A170E/JFA7658 is still a fixed pitched propeller but the combination gives the aircraft vastly superior performance. I doubt if you would have significant increase in performance fitting a VP prop to an H2AD engine.
