While learning to fly just East of the Rockies, I became aware of what were called "flat lander pilots". These were the pilots that were use to flying where there were no mountains and no air currents around the mountains to fly in. If a flat lander had not done their homework, they seemed to crash as they were trying to fly into some of the small airports for the ski resorts. It was always a shame to hear of that.

Do you remember any crashes in the Rockies? And maybe there is some of the same effects by flying in or around the Smokies.
